Connect VS Code to hosted MCP servers

Give VS Code, GitHub Copilot agent mode in VS Code, 10,812 tools through one remote MCP server, without hitting its tool limit.

Steps

  1. Create an API key in the dashboard.
  2. Add the JSON below to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace, or run "MCP: Add Server" from the command palette and pick HTTP.
  3. Open Copilot Chat in agent mode and start the server from the tools list.

Add to .vscode/mcp.json

Add to .vscode/mcp.json
{
  "servers": {
    "hj-hub": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.hjlabs.in/mcp/hub",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with a key from your dashboard. VS Code connects to the HTTP endpoint directly: no bridge, nothing to install.

What VS Code sees

Three tools: search_tools, call_tool and use_tool. When it needs something, it searches in plain words, gets the best matches with their schemas, and calls one. Any tool can also be called by its full name. You can connect an individual server instead, such as Public Knowledge or Developer Toolbox; the snippet is on each server page.
