Connect Claude Desktop to hosted MCP servers

Give Claude Desktop, the Claude app on Mac and Windows, 10,812 tools through one remote MCP server, without hitting its tool limit.

Steps

  1. Install Node.js if you do not have it: Claude Desktop reaches remote servers through the mcp-remote bridge.
  2. Create an API key in the dashboard.
  3. Add the JSON below to claude_desktop_config.json (Settings → Developer → Edit Config) and restart Claude Desktop.

Add to claude_desktop_config.json (needs Node.js)

Add to claude_desktop_config.json (needs Node.js)
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "hj-hub": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "mcp-remote",
        "https://mcp.hjlabs.in/mcp/hub",
        "--header",
        "Authorization:${AUTH_HEADER}"
      ],
      "env": {
        "AUTH_HEADER": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with a key from your dashboard. Claude Desktop talks to remote servers through the mcp-remote bridge, which needs Node.js.

What Claude Desktop sees

Three tools: search_tools, call_tool and use_tool. When it needs something, it searches in plain words, gets the best matches with their schemas, and calls one. Any tool can also be called by its full name. You can connect an individual server instead, such as Public Knowledge or Developer Toolbox; the snippet is on each server page.
